I am ready to take the leap... but I have a couple of questions...
Experiencing a bit of intimidation is entirely normal when attending your first pole or dance class. In reality, the majority of newcomers feel quite nervous upon entering, only to find themselves laughing and thoroughly enjoying the experience right away! Our instructors are dedicated to ensuring your utmost comfort and is ready to address any questions you may have. Here are a few common ones that tend to come up:
Absolutely not. You are not required to have any dance background - pole is for people from all walks of life. If you are new to dance and pole then make sure you sign up for Intro classes and we will teach you everything you need to know from day one. If you’re unsure when to move up your instructor will guide you and help you get to the next level!
Not at all. We will help you get strong and build body awareness. Everyone is different and this might take some time but with enough practice you can make anything happen!
Yes, you MUST sign up online ahead of time. We are a cashless studio so you will need to sign up ahead of time in order to take any class. Classes fill up quickly so you are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to reserve your spot.
DO NOT BE LATE. We have a no tardy policy and will not allow anyone into class late. You will forfeit your class and will not be able to make it up. Feel free to arrive at least 10 minutes early. Come and hang out in the lounge with your fellow students and warm yourself up for a great class!
If you’re just getting started, we recommend shorts or pants that can be rolled up to expose the backs of your knees, as skin contact helps with grip on the pole. You’re also welcome to bring layers to wear during warm-up.
For more advanced levels, fitted shorts and a supportive top are recommended to allow for greater skin exposure and secure grip.
Additional notes:
• Please avoid see-through clothing
• Kneepads, leg warmers, and socks are helpful for non-pole classes
No lotion or moisturizers before any apparatus class, as they affect grip and safety
YES! FVT Academy does not provide yoga mats. Please bring your own mat OR knee pads to warm up with.
• A yoga mat (we do not provide mats on site)
• A water bottle — a bottle filler is available
• Dance heels if you are taking a heels class
Footwear requirements:
• All dance shoes must be clean, never worn outside, and have proper dance soles
Street shoes and regular heels are not permitted, as they are unsafe for dancing
• Please do not wear jewelry for pole or any apparatus classes. Jewelry can scratch or damage equipment and may also be damaged by the apparatus.
• Do not wear lotion, oils, or moisturizers on the day of your pole or chair class. These products make the pole and chair extremely slippery and unsafe, and you will not be able to maintain grip.
• Arrive hydrated and nourished, but avoid heavy meals immediately before class.
• Listen to your body and communicate with your instructor if something feels unsafe or painful.
• Studio equipment should be treated with care so it stays in good condition for the next student!
• We are excited to meet you and support you on your pole & dance journey!
